Red dot questions...
« on: October 23, 2011, 09:41:44 AM »
Have a cheap BSA red dot.  Dot has a 'corona'; looks like a comet tail up to the left.  Is this typical of cheap red dot sights?

Have seen 'polarizer' mentioned about more expensive red dots.  Does this eliminate the 'corona'?

Or... is this just my eyes causing the fuzzy dot?

Because I want to try a red dot on a pistol.  Just fyi, I already have good pistol scopes that work fine.

I have owned many different brands of red dots and can tell you at some intensities all can give me that comet tail.. BUT by and large my AIM-POINTS do not at the lower output levels.

I get a crisp dot from my cheap Bushnell at "just enough" intensity, provided I wear my glasses (fairly weak prescription).
Without glasses, it looks like an irregular shape, but still has a defined center.
Same with my Burris Fastfire II, except it has an automatic intensity adjustment.

The difference between people who do stuff and people who don't do stuff is that the people who do stuff do stuff.

i think part of the trouble is your eyes. Most all of them including my aimpoints fail to give me a perfect little circle. My buddy on the other hand sees them better.

OK, if I wear weak reading glasses I get a clearer dot.

Thanks.
