1910 / 1931 Mexican mauser
« on: August 19, 2011, 04:53:09 AM »
Hi,

I have a decent Mexican Mauser that has a 98 style bolt but has a small ring up front.  Did the Mexican gov upgrade the small ring design to incorporate the stronger bolt lugs as well and just leave the ring small or just the bolt for better gas handling???

What is the strength of this action in relation the other small / large ring designs.

I know that this thread is old, but I hope the thread starter will see my reply.  I have one of the small ring Mexican Mauser's in .257 Roberts Improved, and I am exploring this matter on another board. It seems that the barrel lug is smaller than other small ring Mausers while ring diameter remains the same. This would make the Mexican Mausers stronger than other small ring Mausers. I should know just how much stronger in a very short time.

OK, I have just received my answer from a Mauser expert. "Load that Mexican with whatever you want with confidence"  Mine shoots the 85 grain Combined Technologies ballistic silver tips at over 3600 FPS with stiff load of RL 19. I love my .257 Roberts Improved.
