any reports on the blr 450?
« on: January 16, 2004, 05:59:24 PM »
I received some pretty good news Wednesday. My BLR 450 Marlin should be in Tuesday. This will be my first big bore rifle other than a 44 Magnum leveraction. Does anyone have a report on the BLR 450? I think they have been on the market for a few weeks now in scarce quantities but I figured someone would written about them already. I’m a big bore handgun nut. I sure hope the big bore rifle bug doesn’t bite me equally as hard. I’d have to find a part time job to support my addiction.  :?

Thanks
Scott

TScottO,

The one guy that I know that has one ordered his from the same sporting goods store that I go to and from the store owner I learned that the reason for the waiting time is due to increased sales of the BLR .450 Marlin.  Every time I see the guy that bough his he has it with him.  He has taken three hogs and two Mule deer with it since he got it.  He reloads and is using the same 350 gr. Hornady RNSP load I gave him.  Reports all were one shot kills and they never moved after being hit.  I really like both of my .450's although neither are a BLR.  Lawdog

I picked mine up today. It's a snazzy lil gun however with my work scheduel for the first half of the year I am not sure when I'll be able to hit the range. This is my first BLR as well. Thus far I am well pleased with how it feels and handles. What reloads are suitable for this action? For now I picked up a few boxes of Hornady, 350gr flat point. At first I was considering a fixed 4x32mm leupold or maybe a small variable but after handling it I may just keep it as is.

Good luck and be safe,
Scott

Seeing that it is a detachable box magazine you can load any type bullet that will fit, round nose, spitzer or flat point.  That is the advantage over the Marlin Guide gun, the ability to use Barnes X bullets.  Lawdog
