24" or 26" barrel
« on: January 13, 2004, 12:48:30 PM »
I have desided to go with a Savage .223
10FP has a matt finish 24" barrel
12FV has a blued 26" barrel
My queston: is the extra 2" of any benifit or just extra weight.  :?

hylander,

If you are using slow burning powders then the longer barrel does give an advantage in my opinion.  Weight wise?  Just how much does a couple of inches weight?  A few ounces maybe.  I prefer longer barrels but in the case of the .223 Rem. I don't see the need.  Lawdog

:D Thanks for the input:
I found a 12FV 26" at a local shop for $ 450.oo
I think it is good deal.
It has the Accutrigger and pillar bedded synthetic stock.
