CZ 550 Varmint 308 Laminate
« on: February 26, 2011, 03:09:53 AM »
Well I got my new CZ 550 Varmint Laminate in a 308 the other day. This is my first CZ product.I am quite impressed with this rifle. The first thing I did was pull the stock off and check her out.The barrel was free floated and I liked that.Much to my surprise, the recoil lug was factory bedded,I liked that too.The trigger was lousy, but I adjusted it and now it's great. The set trigger is something else.I've never had one on a rifle before, nor have I ever shot one. That thing is super light weight and makes it easy to get a good shot off.The rifle came with high ring CZ mounts too.The are heavy duty steel, wished they had allen screws, but the screws are good quality and the slots are deep,so what the heck, the're darn good rings.I put a 3x12 Weaver Buck Commander scope on her and went to the range.I had multiple loads worked up and I can honestly say,I could not have been happier with my results.Everything I tested shot well under an inch and most were around 1/2".I even got a 3/4" group at 200yds with it.Not to shabby for the first time out,not to mention the wind was 15mph +.Kudos to CZ,they build a fine rifle.

I bought a used 550 American in .308 from Cabelas three years ago; It's the best
hunting rifle I've ever shot.

Using Wally Mart Federal brown box 150 SP's I had two hole touching at 100yds last year (when I sighted in the scope)

this year, upgraded glass to a 3 x 9 Nikon w BDC; great setup, looking for more
success this year culling whitetails on my buddys ranch.
