Recoil pad for 1885 highwall?
« on: February 11, 2004, 07:56:01 PM »
I have a Uberti high wall in 45 70 and normally the recoil isn't too bad, but I found out not to shoot with just a T-shirt on.  Nice sized bruse.  The steel but plate has to go! :)

Any ideas?  I'm shooting black powder loads, and for some reason they seem to kick harder than smokless factory loads.

I`ve always liked a leather wrapped pad on a traditional firearm if a pad is to be used. Best of both worlds. Easier to shoot and does not detract from the authentic appearance of the piece. Best of luck. POW

It's a shame to change the classic lines of the original buttplate. Why not spring for a PAST recoil pad. I use one when shooting all my big bore single shots. They're very comfortable, and can be put on under your shirt, so it doesn't show. Then everyone will wonder why you keep smiling when you touch off that big bore!
