I'm in NY about 40 miles north of the city and the deer population here is out of control;Last year I shot a buck opening day and then on the 3rd day took a bit fat doe all on public land. About 4 weeks after I got a buck during muzzle loading season. I gave plenty of the meat away to friends. About 10 years ago for several years I shot one deer in five years of hunting. Some years I never even saw one.  I guess the population runs in cycles.

they're all congregated at the post burn now BUT in the winter when that big group eats up all the food YOUR deer will come back to your uneaten food.

DO NOT DO A BURN YET!!!  maybe a couple tracts in a year or two to keep it fresh, but with that big beacon a ways off from you the deer will be coming from farther than ever once the hungry "foreigners" follow the scent trails of your fat deer in the dead of winter.

We have had bumper acorn crops here the last 2 years and the deer stay deep in the woods.  I hope they decide to get out and about tomorrow for a little while.
