B-78 extractor ?
« on: December 03, 2011, 01:15:39 PM »
First let me say I'm new to single shot rifles . I just purchased a 1973 manufacture B-78 in 30-06 it seems to me that the extractor should pull shell far enough out of chamber that gravity will let it at least fall to the deflector. I thought that rifle should have ejector but the only part of the ejector I have is the ejector hammer extension has my rifle been cannibalized or was this deemed unnecessary for certain calibers? The rifle is in pristine condition I can't imagine someone would discard parts off of such a beautiful piece . ???

AFAIK, all B-78 rifles were issued with the extraction/ejection mechanism set up for full ejection.

If your rifle either doesn't eject, or has some of the parts missing (ej hammer washer, ej hammer sear, ej hammer spring & guide, & the ej hammer) - them someone has disabled the ejection feature, either deliberately via parts removal, or accidently.

If you have all the parts, the B-78 Field Service Manual describes how to reassemble the EJ properly.

I appreciate your input Rangr44 I purchased this though Guns International witch is Cabelas I have contacted them they say they will make right, I sure hope so. I felt like I paid a premium price so lets see if it comes with premium service. Thanks again. :-\
