.460?
« on: September 22, 2011, 09:27:18 PM »
I saw were you could get this in a 20 inch barrel. Does anyone have one and how does it shoot? It was rated for around 2200 with a 200 grain bullet in a pistol, has anyone chrono'ed on in the 20 inch barrel?
Thanks,
Chris Kiefner

I think the hornady 200 gr ftx is around 2800 fps in the carbine.

2875fps for the factory 200gr in my 20" H&R.

yes that would be very quick for a 200 grain bullet. How do they shoot though. Speed isn't anything if it can't hit anything.

My 45 Colt carbine rechambered to 454 Casull shoots 1" at 50, and 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 " at 100 with a 20" barrel.........

I've shot about 1.5 inches at 200 yards with a scoped 460 S&W Encore handgun with a 15 inch barrel (including brake).  With that load I've taken:

1.  A Zebra.
2.  A Red Hartebeest.
3.  A Klipspringer at about 180 yards.
4.  A Vaal Reebok.
5.  A couple of Cape Grysboks.
6.  A Duiker.
7.  An Impala.
8.  A European Fallow Deer.
9.  A Steenbok.
10.  A Kalahari Springbok.

I did find the 460 S&W Magnum to be one of the pickiest cartridges I've loaded for.  I get about 2,350 fps out of my braked 15 inch barrel using Hornady 250 gr. SST/ML bullets.
