Taurus Tracker 22lr questions
« on: August 14, 2011, 05:28:16 PM »
Hey Ladds

I have 2 22LR trackers one 4in one 6

I had the 6in out and after shooting it was very difficult and at times impossible to cock the hammer. I thought that the rimfire cases were getting deformed and creating friction. Just yesterday I had the 4 in out same deal. not I am sure the hammer lock is moving when the gun is shot and its just enought to be a pain.
OK has anyone had this happen to them?
Is there a way to lock that thing down?
Can a new hammer be bought that doesnt have the lock? I would just as soon make it go away.

Thanks HAnk

I think you are kidding yourself about the source of your problem. I'd look elsewhere. If I recall correctly the Taurus lock thing is just a screw in the hammer that when in the up position prevents hammer movement. You should easily enough be able to verify its position. Down is down it can't move on its own.

Check the barrel cylinder gap and watch it as you move the cylinder to each position. See if it binds. Make sure it is clean and properly lubed. When it happens open the cylinder and check to see if any of the fired cases have set back. Just a few ideas to check out.

Mine did that. I sent it to Taurus and they fixed it. Give them a call.

It is a great revolver now. Accuracy is very good and a DA pull that is hard to believe..

I am sad to say that most Taurus revolvers that I have come across have had to be sent back for work at the factory.

I had this happen with a 94 Stainless that I have.  It is nothing that I have not had happen before with other guns namely a Ruger Speed six and a S&W 66.  In all cases it was caused by too tight a cylinder gap.  When the revolver was cold it barely had any gap in several positions when it warmed up due to shooting many rounds the gap closed and the cylinder rubbed on the back of the barrel making cocking harder.  I solved it just like the gunsmith fixed my Ruger Speed Six.  He filed the back of the barrel down a couple thousandths and problem solved.  I did the same thing to my Taurus 94 SS and now no problems and accuracy was unaffected
