First time growing Brussell Sprouts
« on: November 13, 2011, 03:50:44 AM »
My plants are about 24" high now.  When will the sprouts form?  How do I know when to harvest?  Someone told me to remove the bottom four leaves of each plant.
Would like some input from someone in the know.

I've only grown them a few times, I harvested them when I was ready to process them.  As I remember it was in the middle of November when they were ready, I planted transplants in May or June, the sprouts formed about late August or September.  Again this is from memory from three or four years ago.

Had a friend that grew them. He had good soil. He was unsure at first but when they started produceing he was real pleased. The first fall he started planting cuttings, before frost and freez, to expand his patch and it worked out well. I'm pretty sure he covered them with plastic for freezes. He lived in central Mississippi. He said they were a great crop. ear
