Help - Rear Stock Replacement bolt issue
« on: November 14, 2011, 07:23:01 PM »
Hi All,

I have problem that some smart chap might come up with an idea to solve.

I brought a new stock for my H&R and had it shipped down to me in NZ.  I wanted to swap out the wood for a plastic stock as we do a lot of walking in the mountains to get to our hunting areas down here (or at least some of us do) and I wanted to make the rifle lighter to carry in a pack.  So I ordered a Monte Carlo Stock  (http://www.riflestock.com/catalog_page.cfm?PCID=1&MID=11&PSCID=267&Lev=S3) Or if ordering to export out of the USA, you need this link:  (https://secure.actionexportsusa.com/catalog_page_detail.cfm?recordno=11&Product_CatalogID=2874&ProductNumber=19-01-26&ProductCode=1&ProductSubCodeID=267&NewProduct=0)

Anyhow, I've received the stock but I can't fit it to the rifle because the inside diameter of the stock is too narrow for a standard 14mm socket!  Almost got mine stuck in there and I'm still a good inch or two short of making contact with the bolt-head: my scoket set is long enough, just not thin enough.  Of course, I can buy a longer bolt and just put a heap of washers behind it, but I thought perhaps somebody might have a bright idea or been through this before???

Thanks for your help!  :D

You may see if you can get a "Socket Head Cap Screws " same length and size as your bolt. This is the bolt that uses an allen wrench instead of a socket.

Sorry to read of the problems, yes some of the stocks can be a issue with the dimensions of the but stocks. we just had a long thread of things guys have done to get around it.

You simply need a thin wall socket and a long extension. Time for a trip to the hardware store or Sears.

OK, I'm off to the shop for a thin socket.  :)

Thanks for the replies.  I searched for a thread on this problem, but couldn't find it.  Never mind: now there's three threads for the next person.
