Savage 440 -- Tight Safety
« on: November 23, 2011, 01:36:19 AM »
I recently picked up a Savage 440 12 ga. O/U.  I knew next to nothing when I bought the gun other than the fact that the price was right and the gun felt very comfortable for me.  The gun is in pretty good shape for its age.  My thought was that it would make a good hunting O/U and maybe even a good platform for me to try my hand at basic gun refinishing/gunsmithing.

My first and most important issue is the safety being very tight.  It is operable, but I am not extremely confident that I would be able to take the safety off quickly enough to get a shot off at a flushed grouse.  Anyone had a similar issue?  Is this a relatively easy fix if I disassemble the gun?  BTW...the gun does not have a barrel selector as part of the safety if that makes a difference.

Thanks!!
