Who hunted in scattergun season....?

....in Iowa this year and how did ya do?

My season, late mzloader, starts Monday and I expect to be out there. But to be honest I'm not all that excited about it for some reason. Took two of my favorite front stuffers to the range today to check zero...both were fine....but it just didn't get my blood runnin' like it used too. :-\

Basket racked 8 pointer at 1630 hours this afternoon. 40 yards, classic broad side heart shot, Traditions Yukon, 110 gr 2F Goex, Winchester primer,  250 grain Shockwave. Dropped on the spot. Both lungs mush, heart ripped up, entry between ribs, exit through off side rib.

I enjoyed it.....no tracking job after the shot, but the excitement level just wasn't there. Am i just getting too old?  :-\

Don't know why you don't have the usual zeal , maybe just a phase.
Could go back to foster slugs for shotgun or round balls for front stuffer, having to chase them down all over God's creation might put the fun back in.
Glad you had good weather, we have had some years that were a complete bust, inch of ice everywhere, etc.

Hmmm? I actually never did hunt them with foster slugs. The one time I hunted scattergun season I got a bit uneasy about the shotgun army and their methods. And I was using a frontstuffer even then.

Had to give up traditional muzzleloaders because my eye sight has gone to crap on me, can't pick up that front sight at dusk and dawn anymore........and a scope just looks WRONG on beautiful Ohio style rifle! :-\

Yea, it is a bit different during shotgun season. I've heard it described as "harvesting" deer as opposed to "hunting" dear. really helps get the numbers down.
Block and push seems the most productive, if in thick cover the pushed deer can circle around the pushers, they are smart and will take advantage of our tendency to not change from our patterns.
I still like still hunting, never walk with that rhythmic , cadence like pattern that distinguishes us from the animal world.
