The original factory frame is an SB2.  I think if you search the FAQs there is info. on loading for the 38 55.  IIRC it talks about throat issues and bullet sizing and the different brass that is available.

My old '04 wont chamber the long brass (which is made to fit the real old originals), but some others here do fine with it. Full length sized and slipped in the chamber it sticks out the back by that much difference between them. The chamber is really just a long slow taper anyway, no real neck portion defined, witha slightly steeper leade into the rifling, so anything close will probably do fine. The bigger issue is using as large a dia. bullet as will still chamber and extract cleanly.

I have to wait till barrel comes in mail so I can slug it and find out, midway doesn't have to many options for bullets

They offer the 265 grain cast bullet in four or five different diameters.

My .38-55 shorty will chamber both long and short brass.  I seem to get my best accuracy with Winchester short brass, Federal LR primer, a 213 gr. .379 bonded bullet and a hot load of RL7 at 2200+ fps.  I've tried 260 gr GCs at about 1600 to 1800 fps in both Starline and Winchester brass without the accuracy I enjoy with the other load.

Pete's 38-55 barrel slugs ~.379" in the groove IIRC.

As big as you can chamber, unfortunately without neck reaming, that will likely be .379" or .380" depending on the brass you use, .381" is better, but that won't happen without neck reaming. Soft .380" cast bullets will bump up, I've shot them in one of mine, but the other one won't shoot hard cast .380" which are tight to chamber in Starline long brass, keyholes IF they hit the target at 100yds, .379" jacketed shoot extremely well tho.

If yours truely slugs at .379 it should chamber up nicely with Starline, maybe a bit snuggish with WW, but with some careful sanding or fine filing of the 'neck' portion (short a real neck turning tool) you can probably make them chamber and extract well (worked for me anyway).
