My Dad
« on: November 20, 2011, 10:50:43 PM »
Dad decided 84 years was enough last Friday just before midnight. Mom has been gone a little over 2.5 years and he missed her every day. 60+ years together tends to do that to a guy.
Being born in 1927, he barely made WWII, typing prisoner rosters and pulling guard duty at Nuremburg. He told of the 2 German pistols he almost made it home with, but dumped in the train depot restroom in NY after the threat of being "volunteered" for another enlistment.
An Iowa farm kid, he grew up working with teams of horses and mules and lived to see someone farming his land with 200+HP tractors.
The Greatest Generation for sure, he'll be missed.

I sympathize with your loss, surely he was a fine man.  As an American Legion chaplin, presiding over funerals, I am made altogether too wellaware of the rate we are losing our WW2 veterans.  Generally, they are an uncomplaining generation, stoically facing what life has to offer, good or bad.
Treasure those memories of your Dad and remember him that way.

Thank you, Dad was very active in the Legion and folded a lot of flags for others in his time.
