marlin xt-22vr 22lr varmint
« on: November 19, 2011, 11:04:31 AM »
does anybody own one of these little rifles ? i'm after a good accurate 22lr for spotlighting rabbits & hares out to 50 - 70 m . hares are head shot only . i use hi vol & sub sonic ammo . i'm impressed with the features of this little rifle . micro groove stainless heavy barrel , no open sights , there new pro fire trigger ect . if the tx trigger is the same as my xl7 rifle i'll be very happy . there around the $ 430 austrailain . where a cz or older bruno or anshiltz is $650-$750 .
i want the heavy barrel because i shoot from a vehicle with other people inside & idle of engine , so a little extra weight may help keep it still . also would a 5 shot 1/2" or 3/4" @ 50 m be expecting to much ???
gee i tell ya the xt-22mvsr in 22 mag also has me scratching me chin ???

I picked up a XT-22 yesterday and shot a few groups. Only shooting at 5 yards, but was able to get 3 shot groups all touching with the crappy open sights. I very much liked the trigger. It's going to be a great shooter once I get a scope on it. It weighs about 6 pounds and the barrel has a good thickness to it. Not a bull barrel but not a pencil barrel either. I rubbed out the satin walnut color hardwood stock with oil and then a few coats of stain.
