.50 B&M Alaskan
« on: November 23, 2011, 03:53:00 PM »
Here's an idea I thought I would throw out to any fans of heavy caliber Encores. The .50 B&M Alaskan uses the .50 Alaskan case but with a .005" shoulder which allows the use of bullets for the .500 S&W. I don't know of any bullets in .512 diameter that can be used on big game since this caliber basically uses .50 BMG bullets, but the choices for the .500 is considerable. I currently own a TC 15" .500 S&W that was rechambered to the .50 B&M. My intention is to have a .50 B&M made by MGM but they want $130. for a reamer before they'll do it. If anyone else would be interested in this, we could split the cost of the reamer, the more participants the better. I would like to get a full bull barrel that adds more weight along with a muzzle brake. I won't sugar coat this. The .50 B&M is one seriously kicking BEAST! The grip of choice is the Pachmayr Decelerator. More than a .45-70 for sure. My white tail load pushes a Remington 385 gr. HP at about 2000 fps. It's absolutely devastating on deer, and should be a great elk, boar, bear round. Let me know what you think.
