With the slow twist of the 44 mag handi what kind of accuracy would you get at 16 1/4"
handi rifles- 22 mag      22 hornet    223      7mm-08      308 chip shot     30-30 x2     30-06 shorty      358 cheez whiz     357 max     35 remington     375-08    410 rifled slug     454 casull     460 s&w     45 smokeless muzzleloader x2     45-70    50 huntsman    50-70 government shikari     20 ga.ush     12 ga.ush    12 ga.3 1/2     10 ga.imp.cyl. slug gun

not sure about a 16 1/4.. but Ive got an 18.5" thats getting extremely good accuracy with winchester white box magnums and winchester cowboy 44 specials..

I see a lot of people having a difficult time getting accuracy out of their .44's regardless of bbl length... others seem to have no problem at all..

Im one of the people that got extremely lucky.. I bought a used barrel here, slapped it on one of my frames, went to gander mountain and bought a couple of boxes of ammo, and went to the range.. the only "work" I had to do to it was to slip an O ring onto the stud and float the foreend, which is standard practice for me with all of my single shots these days (to include my non-handi)..

Im getting sub MOA out of mine out to 100 yards..

Don't remember anyone regreting short barrels yet. .44 is a handgun round so short barrel should be good to go. ;)

Cool hows it working as a 445? By the way I love that trigger on the shikari! I had it drilled & tapped and put a 4X32 simmons pro Diamond on it.

16.25" is what I cut mine to, I could have gone a bit closer to 16.000" but who wants to argue with a crosseyed cop over something that WOULD get me deported.

I suppose you mean without hearing protection?

I'd put 150+ rounds a week through my ported .44 Raging Bull and it was never uncomfortable. I hope you're wearing hearing protection! Tinnitus has never been reported as "fun" ;) .

jason cut it off easy use a sawsall with fine toothed blade tape of good side helps keep square takes about 35 minutes. i don't think it would make much more nose than my pistol. my shorty is 16.50 inches. i have another barrel 22'' don't see any difference in accuracy. i don't even think i will crown  the 16.5o barrel. 8)

In and of itself, a barrels ability to accurately put bullets on paper has absolutely nothing to do witH that barrels given length.

If you have conventional sites mounted on the barrel there is the distance between front and rear sites to be considered. Most don't use open sites anymore. Mounting a scope negates this advantage.

I have repeatedly outshot guys with 357/44 mag rifles when I was shooting my revolvers. One time I did it with a Speed Six 2.75" and both of us shooting Win Silvertips at 100 yards. I hit clay petitions every time over six shots to win. He did. NOT make four. ;)

Another +1 for CW.

I had a Ruger Super Blackhawk (7 1/2" barrel)  that would regularly group 1.5-2" at 100 yards with open sights.

It's not the barrel length.  Just make sure it's gets a good crown on the muzzle and
you're good to go!
