.357 Max
« on: December 06, 2011, 10:13:58 AM »
A question for those who have rechambered to .357 Max. Can anyone recommend a gunsmith to rechamber from .357 Mag factory chamber to .357 Max rifle chamber (without forcing cone)?

WELCOME!!
You don't need one... Get on the list for our own reamer and do your own. IIRC it is a correct rifle reamer..

+1, the GBO reamer is a rifle reamer, cuts a 6º leade, welcome aboard dh260! Go for it if you're not in a hurry, bugdust has had the reamer since the 28th, there are 4 waiting ahead of him, there are hundreds of members here that have done their own 357mag to Maxi rechamber here, this reamer has done almost 90 barrels so far, still worked fine on the last one done by Fred McIntire. ;)

Excellent reamer will easily re-chamber a 357 Mag to a Maximum. True 6 deg ramp. You can chamber completely or stop when your target / hunting load touches the bore. I have re-chambered 3 Handi Rifles with this reamer and all three shoot excellent groups.

+1 ^^  It is a simple task. I don't like tinkering with gun innards. But a rechamber is very easy. Takes longer to get stuff set up than to do the rechamber.  ;)

AND A LOT CHEAPER THAN HAVING DONE!!!!!

Get on the list, it is EEEEEEZ to do. Took me longer to get the barrel off and the extractor out than to ream.
My remember'er is broke, but my forgetter is getting better.

357 Mag 1 in 18¾"  or 1:15½" depending on year of manufacture. I think the new ones are 1:15 1/2", but do the test to be sure.

BTW look at the FAQ section. It has this information + a whole lot more about Handi rifles ;)

Welcome, and do it.  Also, if you don't reload, start now the .38s, mags and maxis are easy and if you shoot a bit you'll save a lot of money.

Handloader/bullet caster for 30+ years. If you can buy ready-made ammo for it it's not as much fun!

2 questions about 357max reamer rental.  Does the reamer come with reamer handle, or does the renter have to supply his own?  Also, how does one get on the rental list?  After contemplating for several years, I finally bought a 357 barrel from a fellow member.  It has proven accurate with magnum loads, and I think I'm ready to take the reamer plunge.

See my previous reply and link to the reamers.

There are two Maxi reamers now that cowboyup453 donated his to GBO, one has a handle, one doesn't, info on handle required for the reamer is in the reamer sticky as I stated before.  ;)
