Moore Maker knives???
« on: January 01, 2003, 04:42:07 PM »
I've recently come into a large number of limited edition Moore Maker knives from previous years.  Does anyone have any  experience with this brand?

There's a Texas knifemaker by the name of Bill Moore in Ft. Stockton TX listed at the Texas Knifemakers Association site at www.tkca.org.  Click under Members to get his full address/Phone#.  Maybe he's the guy who made them. His current MAKER's mark(that's probably where the Maker comes from on the blade) is name/city/state, but he's been at it since 1972, and maker's often change their marks(they may go from Stamping to etching their marks).  Maybe he's your guy.  The word Maker on the blade almost guarantee's it was made by an individual and not a factory.  My 1997 Knife Directory lists his prices as from $85-$700.  Might want to give him a ring to see if their his blades an what they might be worth.  If they are custom knives, they should have some value.

:? Hmmm.  Never thought a searchin under Moore Maker.  When I saw the work Maker, just automatically assumed custom.  Been runnin' with the wrong crowd, I guess.  Learned something new; like there's ALWAYS an exception ta the rule.  Went over to their website; nice looking standard, working patterns for the most part. Assume they run a small, family owned factory operation, cause the prices are right for that.
Just wish they had said what kind of steels they use.  "Cutlery quality" carbon steel doesn't mean much.  Though it surely doesn't mean poor quality, either.
