I feel so violated......
« on: November 22, 2011, 07:55:00 AM »
Also, "I hate thieves!"  >:(

Anyone who knows me, knows I'm anal about taking care of myself.

However last night after an extremely long weekend of driving to south Texas and back I was running a little low on get up and go.
This was on top of about 15 days of moving from one house to the other after work.  :'(

I slipped up and left my pistol in the console of my truck overnight.  :-[
The first time I've done this that I can remember.
Anyway last night as luck would have it, some scumbag broke into my truck and stole it.
Normally if I'm going to leave it in the truck I have an AutoSafe I lock it up in.
I just forgot, no excuse for it, but I did.
I woke up this moring and when I got in it I noticed stuff thrown around inside.
No pistol.  >:(

Been having a rough time with it and just needed to vent some.
Hopefully it will serve as a reminder to someone else to be careful.

If you have the serial number and a description.  Report it to the police.  If it shows up at a pawn shop, you will get it back.  Got a friend who had some stolen about 20 years ago, got two of them back recently.

Already done, but thanks for the suggestion.

I'm thinking it was just random.
They dug around everything in there looking.
Figure it was some drug head.

Well, with any luck, someone else will catch the thieving SOB on the wrong end of their gun. Nobody ever really gets away with stealin. You may not get the satisfaction of seein it, but the thief will get his.

One of my brother inlaws did the same thing with a brand new LH bolt action 7mm mag. He reported it to the local police in his town and gave up the thought of ever seeing it again. The kid that stole it lived down the street from him. He was in his bedroom showing it to a school chum when his mom walked in. She marched him downstairs to the phone and made him call the police himself.
Judge had the kid crying in court, apologizing etc. Hopefully, thanks to a smart single mom, the rifle was returned and the kid is going straight.
I hate a thief. I'll pray that you get your gun back.

Old Fart I know how you feel.  Someone broke in my truck a while back and stole tools and CDs.  What was funny I had cashed a check at a bank drive-thru for three hundred dollars earlier that day, I stuck it in my check book and put it over the sun visor in the truck, they never touched that.  I never found the tools but did get the CDs back, when they discovered they were “OLD” country they threw them out along side the road.  I guess they just didn’t like Hank Thompson, George Morgan, Jimmie Davis and the like.  It’s not what they take, just the feeling of being violated that gets next to me.

I hope you get your gun back and the crook gets rapped about the head before he goes to jail. (I wouldn’t be surprised if you find it was a kid that got you.).

Hate to hear it, but doesn't it seem strange the way we can go about our lives day in and day out, and the one time we slip up and drop our guard we get burned?

That I guess is the one lesson we must all learn from this!
My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

Never had any problems all the years we lived out in the sticks.
Move into town and I get the traditional welcome.

I guess it was just a lesson I needed to learn.

I'm still irritated.
But I've pretty well come to the realization I need to buy another because I don't expect to see this one again.

I'm going to mount a trail cam in the back yard pointing at the driveway.
Next time maybe I can get more than a couple fingerprints to work from.

One more reason I prefer to carry my handgun on me. My son had his XD .45 stolen out of his truck and was lucky enough to get it back. He put flyers up in stores advertising his XD was stolen. Knowing it was stolen, a guy bought it from a teenager and turned both the gun and the kid into the cops. The trail cam is a good idea. I have one on my driveway as it's the only way in and out of my property.

Well let's hope it doesn't get used to shoot some single mother working at a convenience store or a kid on his way to school or... you get the idea. Stupid... just plain stupid.

Well I kind of know how you feel, just this last Oct. I left my van unlocked and parked out in the street to make more room in the driveway for a family get together, they took my GPS which I got for a present from one of the kids.  My son got a Walther pistol stolen out of his car several months ago, I tried to warn him because I knew he was keeping it in his car a lot and running around a lot.  Good news for him, the police called him up a few weeks ago, they had it there with them, so he can get it back. Sounds like whoever had it is in some trouble.  He told me it won't be in his car again.  We all live and learn.

The only time I lock my weapon in a car is if I go into the hospital or a Government building. Then I make very sure I park in a place where my car is not likely to be tampered with, such as near an entrance. I also make very sure my weapon is well hidden and the car securely locked. That's about all a person can do.
