I'm considering replacing the stock on my model 99 Savage. Made in 1909-1910. Serial #95080. I found a new stock with crescent butt plate configuration, matching the original that is cracked and splitting behind the tang. It was repaired 50 years ago but is in bad shape. Will the new stock lower the guns value? It shoots great, but should I retire it to the status of a wall hanger? My grandfather purchased this rifle new and gave it to me when I was 14 years old.
