Calendar problem
« on: November 16, 2011, 06:55:42 AM »
I am working on the calender right now and I have a small problem.  I will be rewriting one of the rules for next year to be less ambiguous.

The Rules say:

Quote
Pictures must be posted in the usual format 576 pix wide at 72 ppi.  Save your picture on your computer at a minimum of 1078 x 768 pix or larger. Size---better full size as it comes out of the camera.  Then if your picture is selected I will have you send me your high resolution picture for posting in the calendar.

I am going to rewrite it to say:

Quote
Pictures must be posted in the usual format 576 pix wide at 72 ppi. Pictures must be in a landscape format- wider than tall.  Pictures submitted in portrait format-taller than wide will be deleted. You may resubmit the picture in the proper format.  Save your picture on your computer at a minimum of 1078 x 768 pix or larger. Size---better full size as it comes out of the camera.  If your picture is selected, you must send me your high resolution picture for posting in the calendar. The smaller picture you post on the board can not be used on the calendar.

The calendar is a land scape format calendar.  The pictures are wider than they are tall.  These tall skinny pictures create all kinds of problem.  They leave lots of white space if selected for the calendar.  When the cover collage is made up the soft ware simple extracts land scape section out of miiddle of the picture and the may not even be a cannon in that section.

I agree with keeping to the horizontal format.  (Well, maybe once a decade or so do an all-portrait oriented format calendar.)

You might want to make it a one-step process and post the candidate pix and at the same time forward the full-size pix too.

If we had a portrait shaped calendar template that would be fine.

Big fat no to forwarding the full size...I don't want to have hold 27-84 full size photos on my computer when I only need 12.

This year is the first year we have had problems with getting pictures  from folks.  One person had a hard drive crash and one no response.  Not really an issue, i can make it work

Based on guidelines from the company that publishes the calendar we can shorten this whole rule about submitting photos.  If you guys will submit the photo's as stated below then the whole operation of putting the calendar together will simplified.  I would even be able to extend the deadline three weeks for submission.

Pictures must be posted at 11.5" wide x 8.5 high at 200 dp minimum.   Pictures must be in a landscape format- wider than tall.  Pictures submitted in portrait format-taller than wide will be deleted. You may resubmit the picture in the proper format.

The calendars are ready now!  GBO E-store
