Diesel prices out of hand
« on: November 25, 2011, 04:58:37 AM »
Although I'm seeing gas prices around $3.20 and E85 prices around $2.60, diesel is as high as $4.57. Ouch! Wonder why that is. Spread between gas and diesel is usually less, like around 10 to 60 cents per gallon difference.

Relatively few people buy diesel compared to the gas consumer.  IMO the cost of diesel is an indirect tax on the consumers >:(

Everybody complains about gas prices but don't pay attention to how much more diesel users are getting gouged.  That is because they don't have to buy it directly.  Problem is the farmers use diesel to run the machinery, the semi trucks use it to deliver the products all relating to higher prices paid by the consumers :'(   The consumers are still paying.

Maybe stopping the pipeline going from Canada to Texas will help prices :o

Keep your fingers crossed for the Country!

Why it's seasonal of course.

Farmers are working fields, east coasters are filling the heating oil tanks now too.

As luck would have it this is the first time winter and harvest coincided.  :o  This anomoly should not happen again rest assured the oil traders will have this all sorted out by next fall.

Two reason's Diesel has gone up so much.

1.  We now have to use low sulpher diesel in our road vehicles, and in some farm equipment, per EPA regulations.

2.  India has an exploding economy.  Everything they use is diesel powered.  Same with China, their economy is moved by diesel trucks, boats, and trains.

In Fairbanks I have been paying from $4.35 to $4.97 for the past two years now.   EPA is also trying to force us to use only Low Sulpher Fuel Oil to heat our homes, (No wood or coal).  Same stuff I burn in my F-350.   Our electricity is produced with fuel oil.  That's why we have the highest electric rates in the country.
Where is old Joe when we really need him?  Alaska Independence    Calling Illegal Immigrants "Undocumented Aliens" is like calling Drug Dealers "Unlicensed Pharmacists"
What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

It's my understanding, that the newer diesel fuel, has extra refining steps, to take out the sulpher, therefore, the higher costs. What I'm trying to figure out Sourdough, is how can the epa tell you not to burn coal or wood? Sounds to me like some govt. workers think they have more power than what they really have. Of course after reading some of your posts on the police force's up there, sounds like alot of people are pushing their powers over boundry's. gypsyman
