Ruger .44 mag carbine
« on: May 17, 2011, 12:47:25 PM »
Well guy I pulled of the deal of a century (for me anyway) last weekend. I bought a Ruger .44 mag carbine finger groove model. I gave a whopping $190 for it in almost new condition. It`s at least 98% and has had less than 10 rounds put through it. Sure wish it would have came with the box. I`ve looked at all the auction sites and sale sights found out it kinda a rare nodel. The 2 hardest to find are the finger groove and the Internatal model, both were only made in 69 and 70. The price ranges for $700 to $900. If anyone has any more Info on the finger groove model I would appreciate it if you could steer me in the right direction or if you have one tell me about it... Thanks, Gary

PS: by the way, the same person sold an M-1 carbine for $190 and a .30 carbine pistol to go with it for $150. The person doing the selling was my sisters boyfriend. He was selling them for an older guy. when I found out about The M-1 I chewed him out big time for not contacting me while he still had them. I`m still sniffling over them........

That's a great deal! I have one from the 60's that is not the finger groove model. It was my grandfathers and he could never get it to function well, just shot it in single-shot mode. My brother inherited it, and a year later, threatened to pawn it. I bought it for $300 and thought that was a great deal. It functions fine now that it has been properly cleaned, lubed and is fed full-power loads. Accuracy at best is 2-3" at 100yds with factory Hornady 240gr XTPs.

Thanks, Dinny

I bought one of these things what seems like a lifetime ago.  The gun was newly on the market at the time and I liked the look.  Thought it would make a good sidekick to the 4" model 29.  Turned out the 4" revolver was more accurate (at least in my hands) than the carbine.  Didn't have any feed problems but accuracy was minute of bulldozer at best, so it got a new home in lightning speed.  At the time it was listed as a sporter stock and that is what it said on the box, with no mention of a finger groove stock.  I assume that was a term that was added by the public later on but who knows?  Hope your's is a shooter.  I still like the look.

I`ll try for som pics, but first I have to load my wife`s camera software on my computer, for some reason mine stopped working.. Old Syko thanks for the heads up on the model, I guess the checked sporter stock was called the deluxe. Mine isn`t checkered.. I`m taking it to the gun show the first weeked in June, probably will do some trading. I`ve been wanting a Winchester 97 WWI riot gun Or ploice model, might go for another .357. I got a nice S&W mdl 19-5 on a good trade at the last show. My wife almost crys every time the gun show comes to town. I just have to keep telling her that`s it`s an investment in the future.( It is, Right)   Gary

Could be true.  Mine wasn't checkered either and was just called a sporter.  At one time I did have a checkered 10-22 that was called a Sporter Deluxe version.  One thing about it, you got some valuable tradin material that may just turn out to be someones Indiana deer huntin dream gun.

BTW, be careful at the 1500 after all the break ins and other ignorance at the last couple.  I won't be making the drive up there again.

I sold mine and regret it all the time.  What a nice little brush gun especially for us in the southern part of the state.
