.300 AAC Blackout vs .300 Whisper and TC barrels
« on: November 28, 2011, 07:58:28 AM »
I've been intrigued by .300 AAC Blackout and .300 Whisper for it's compatibility with AR systems.  In an Encore or Contender, I could see possibly hand loading some with less expensive lead or copper plated bullets for .30 cal plinking.  I would also think the ability to recycle plentiful .223 brass into .300 Whisper would be another bonus.  The new .300 AAC Blackout appears to be a new industry standard based on the .300 Whisper.  Can .300 AAC Blackout ammo be shot from .300 Whisper TC barrels?   Does anyone have clear info on the differences between .300 AAC Blackout and .300 Whisper chambering?
‎Is it really Zombie Max, if it's not .357 Max?

I got introduced to the 300 Whisper by a friend in Paraguay where I have a hunting lodge.  He had me bring him a 10" Contender barrel and dies from SSK 10 years ago.  He immediately won the Paraguay national pistol competition using this caliber.  I have since taken 7 barrels to different friends in our shooting club there.  I have four 300 barrels for contender and encore.  One is a 300 Blackout MGM barrel, One is a 300-221 MGM barrel, One is a SSK 300 Whisper barrel, and the last is a Thompson Custom Shop 300 Whisper barrel.  I reload using 300 whisper dies from Hornady and shoot the Whisper reloads in all 3 calibers.   I have read the pressures of a true 300 Blackout are slightly higher than the 300 Whisper and you should not fire blackouts in the whisper chambers so I don't.  My Whisper reloads do great in the Blackout and 300-221 barrels though.  I bought 700 pieces of Brass already made from military .223 once fired rounds with primer crimps removed from a guy named Hoser who posted on www.quarterbore.com    Cheap at $.12 each shipped and excellent quality.

I shoot deer with 125 gr Nosler Ballistic Tips loaded to 2100 fps and subsonic 220 gr Outlaw State Bullets at 1050 fps through a suppressor. About as loud as a 22 cb cap.  Sweet and kills suburban deer quietly so as not to disturb the neighbors. :)
