375 HENRY !!
« on: September 29, 2011, 10:33:11 AM »
Hey, I'm about to pick up a Henry 30-30. I already have Marlin 375's but that Henry has a BULL barrel, I kid you not!  We measured it at .830" !!!
That's bigger than my 45-70 Guide barrel! Anyway, the point is, there is a lot of meat in the barrel and there's more metal in the Henry frame where the barrel and frame join, than on a Marlin. Plenty strong. You all know that the 30-30 and the 375 Win share the same head dimensions and almost identical length. Sooo, I'm thinking, rebore and chamber and I got me a HVY barrel 375 ! Oh, I also checked to see if a 375 Win cartridge would fit through the loading window of the Henry tube mag,  yes it does!  So, what do yall think?

Sounds like an interesting project.  We re-bored a corroded 32 Special barrel to 35X30-30 back in the 1980's.  Its a baliistic twin of 35 Remington.

JES Rebore does a great job on converting Marlin 30-30's to 375/ 38-55's.  VERY reasonable and super quick turnaround time.  Also does alot of other rebore/rechambering.  Don't know if he is familar with the Henry, contact him and see.  DP

The Henry design with all the extra metal does seem to give you something to work with, but there is a reason it's scaled up.  Be sure to make certain that the barrel metal and the frame alloy are up to the task.  The loading port in the tube can be deceptive as to what you can re-chamber for.  The carrier that lifts the cartridge from the loading tube to the chamber may need some adjusting and timing tweaks.
