Anti-Bear Baiting
« on: January 09, 2004, 03:25:12 PM »
Well the anit-bear hunting groupies have gathered enought signatures to get the issue  to go to ballot.

I think it is time that we all start to write our respective representives and to voice our opinions. The state has had an increase of bear related problems this year and more bears probably isn't going to help much.

How about a petition to keep out-of-state groups out-of-state!!!!!!!!!!  :x

Dave,

You may have already seen this topic from the State F&G website, but I offer it to all Alaskans (and anyone else for that matter)...it's information is timely for anywhere baiting is being accosted by the anti hunting crowd!

Some hunters still do not get it...all hunters of all walks of life and all types need to support baiting: all cessation of hunting of any kind is the aim and ultimate goal coming out of these people's lips!

best,
bhtr

Yea the ultimate goal is the destruction of mankind so that animals can inherit the earth.  They don't even want pets, dogs, cats.....

There should be a big island on which we can send all the different eco./animal rights people and let them control that one piece to their hearts content.

Guys,  Here's an idea,  start a pettition to "not vote" for those representatives that vote yes for this type of legislation.  Go to the Rod & Gun, Sporting Goods Stores, Send out signature cards to guides, Then keep records of who had signed the pettition.  It's easy then to have them sign up again.  Just make sure that you follow though.

The other is the email bomb.  Send out an email to your representative and then CC everyone that you know is in the same district and supports your views. (not hard)  On the bottom put a note to those that you have coppied to send a copy to the representative stating that you also support the same views and CC everyone that they know.  The emails can be stagering.

If you do this a couple of times this type of legislation will have a tough time getting to the floor.

Example -  We the Constituents of “insert area here” agree that in the next election we will not vote for the current representatives if they support bill “insert bill here”.  We are opposed to this form of legislation and will not support a representative that endorses this.  This petition will be circulated  prior to election time with a full listing of representatives and the vote that they cast.

"How about Adak?"

Hey, Adak is not bad.  And there are BIG caribou there.  THey were imported by Bob (Saltwater) Jones who was director of the Aleutian Wildlife Preserve back in the '60s.  He brought in completely clean, healthy animals, no parasites on them.  When I was there in 1968 they had a head mount in the NCO Club which outscored anything in Boone & Crockett.  Because the caribou weren't native to the island it was not elligible for the record book.  Sometime I can tell you a story I got from Bob Jones himself about getting crosswise to security on Shemya...

Wishunt,
You missunderstand, my friend. This will probably be a vote of the people as it was a petition drive that, under Alaska State law, appears to have the correct # of signatures to be placed on a ballot in November. It's the people that have to be notified and minds changed or (better yet) enlightened.

gtram,
I understand your message (and point :P ), but want to make a different point of consideration: we MUST talk about it to all of the 60 to 70% of those who are not hunters or enviromental activists...yet are Alaskans.

I have contacted all of my local F&G people, my Rep. and Senator, and have fired off letters to the Governor and Lt. Governor. I assure all here that we have the Government majority (Repubs.) on our side. I have talked to people at every chance: relatives, friends, acquaintances, and even total strangers! I will not stop talking until I cast my vote in the booth.

There is still a little light peeking out. The Wackos may have exceeded the number of votes total required by law...but they still must have minimums from ALL of the areas of the state. In person no less, my Represenative came by my shop and explained to me that each and every vote will be checked out to the fullest. He said he would be suprised to see that the petition had garnered enough votes in some areas to allow said petition to qualify. We will have to see. In the meantime, I urge everyone to at least tell one other person that might be sympathetic to hunters (but doesn't hunt) about the petition and relate the facts... and then urge them to vote down this prohibition.

I will end my soapbox sojourn here. :)
best,
bhtr

Did you know that the USF&WS is considering removing/eliminating all the caribou on Adak because they are not a "native" species?  I heard this from the horses mouth just yesterday.
