Cosmoline
« on: January 14, 2004, 11:35:42 AM »
Does anyone know what is in cosmoline,  is it a petroleum product? Was reading an old book that said they used cosmoline in their lubes, this is in the early 1900's and I think they were still shooting black powder then. Has anyone tried adding cosmoline to any lube with any luck?

thanks in advance. flint :D

Do a google search on MSDS and cosmoline -

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=MSDS+cosmoline

You'll find more than you have time to read.

Give us a summary?

Cat: most of that information is how to clean it off stuff.  Degreaser and solvents that work against cosmoline.
I want to know whats in it, is it petroleum base. A petroleum base additive to black powder lube is a no-no. and i'm hoping that it is a vegetable fat base grease.
