Well fellas, took a break this afternoon and had a sit on the back porch with a cup o' joe. Worked a 12 hour stretch last night and while the wife had our 2 1/2 year old twins occupied, I sat out back for a bit of "daddy time".
It was clouding over and I thought I'd check the "back 40" to see if any groundhogs were stirrin'. The sheds out in the field usually hold a few every year and I try and keep the population in check as cattle run in the same area.
At any rate, as I sat enjoying my coffee, I spied a large one stirring out adjacent to the equipment shed. I ducked in the house and grabbed the first shooting iron at hand, my 1976 vintage Contender w/a 14" SSK barrel in 6.5 JDJ. It sports one of Dave D's grips sets and a Burris 5X scope. Launching a 129gr Hornady SST over IMR 4350, makes for a pretty lethal combo.
Mind you, I just got back into the T/C Contenders after a long time away from them. The only thing I'd managed to shoot at this point was paper. I made my first trip to the range with her for sight-in last Saturday. This was first blood with my new-to-me Contender.
Shot was at a laser verified 113 yards, shot prone off the bipod with a rear bag.
Enjoy!!
