I got a 25-06 last year and like it. I worked up a load using the Nosler 110gr Accubond, and Retumbo powder. Can not remember the powder weight off the top of my head, but I am getting very good results. I use Retumbo for the velocities, and it is designed to give consistant velocities at extreame tempatures. Living in Alaska I hunt in extreames. The 110gr bullet, has the best bullet coefficent of the 25s. Retains velocity and energy better than all the others.
Four out of five shots will be touching at 200 yards, my sight in distance for the calibrated Tactical Scope I use. I also have a level on the scope to assure I am holding the gun level. 400 to 700 yards I can hit a gallon milk jug every shot if I do my part. Sometimes I get sloppy and miss, not the guns fault. Wind will get me sometimes. The 25-06 is affected more by wind than my 30-06, plague of the lighter bullet. But the 25-06 is becoming my go to gun during the winter when I don't have to worry about Bears. (Still want to take a Grizzly with a .17).
As for the cartridge, most of the wolf hunters and wolf hunting guides swear by this cartridge. It has the range and the energy to do the job on out to 500 and 700 yards, without serious damage to the pelts. Wolf pelts bring high doller.
An O-ring under the forearm, and changing to a thumbhole stock, is the only thing I have done to mine. I bought it off the internet. It came with a 26" barrel, and a beat up pallet wood stock. BUT IT HAD EJECTORS, so I bought it.
