Contender Max
« on: December 08, 2011, 04:40:14 AM »
Well I finally broke down and got a Max barrel.  Ordered it from Ed's Monday, got it yesterday, thanks Ed.  Its a 23 inch SS bull.  My question is what forend do I need?  My frame is a SS original not G2.  Also, anybody have a good heavy bullet load(60 grain or more) for the 223 21 inch taper barrel?  Thanks for your help.  Colonelsanders

I had problems with  1 in 12 twist in the 223 any thing over 55 grains seem to tail drag a bit in other words almost a key hole but not quite. now another 223 I have has a 1 in 9 and it shoots 70 grn just fine with no problem. I think most all the rifle forends will fit on the BBL barrels.

This was all with factory loads

40gr V-Max with H322 powder is my most accurate load in my 21" tapered s/s 223 Contender barrel =  1 1/2" - 2" three shot 300 yard groups when I do my part.
