Mosby Cannon
« on: December 08, 2011, 11:53:32 AM »

A museum display in the 45th Infantry Division Museum in Oklahoma City,
I found this on the web, it appears to be an original 2.5 inch Confederate mountian rifle,
if anyone lives in the area maybe they can stop there and get some better photo's

Mr president I do not cling to either my gun or my Bible.... my gun is holstered on my side so I may carry my Bible and quote from it!

It is a Confederate Mountain Rifle, but it's not whole.  The first few inches of the muzzle were cut off, I think to make a key to the city for some diplomat or something like that.

There’s quite a story to that rifle.  Col Mosby used it to shoot up a union train during one of his raids. When followed by union cavalry he had his gunner set it up in a narrow sunken lane. The blue coats took turns charging 4 abreast into canister shot.  When out of ammo, the gun was eventually captured with the gun captain wounded defending his Mtn rifle with the ram rod.
Ammunition is like firewood. The more you have, the warmer you feel.
