Hotest primers?
«
on:
January 16, 2004, 02:42:23 AM »
Is there a common consensus as to which primers are the hotest or is it purely personal preference? Several people have told me that Federal are the hotest and softest. Others have said Winchester...
Has anyone been able to test them?
Thanks.

Federal 215 primers are recommended for most of the magnum loads with slowest powders-- including Weatherby loads. That should be a pretty good indicator. Most manuals also list that primer at the top of the "hotness" listing. Rich P

Every few years someone will run a test and post or print the results.
They never exactly agree.Manufacturing standards probably change over time.
The last one that I read, listed the Federal 215 as the hottest of the hot and the standard Remington as the gentlest.

No, not off topic. Actually, I was wrong as well, his test is measuring energy not force but there's still no temperature component.
