Fiber Optic Sight
« on: January 01, 2012, 12:40:57 PM »

I got my first new FA front sight to try.  It's a green fiber optic sight by Freedom Arms.  I was reluctant to try this sight because I have been shooting square black sights for many years.  Well, I was pleasantly surprised. My accuracy seemed as good as my old sights but the sight is definitely quicker to pick up and shows up MUCH better when aimed at a brown dirt bank.  I'm not crazy about the looks but I might be able to get over that :)

I just mounted a green fiber optic front sight on my model 97 in 44 spec. Wow, I can see again. It made a positive difference. I was told by the sales rep at Freedom Arms that I should get the green color since males tend to pick up green better than the red. She was correct. I have other red fiber optic sights but I seem to pick up the green faster & clearer. I guess I'll need to convert my model 83 also. Good shooting

I chose green because it was obviously the clearest on my bow sight.  Green looks much sharper than red to me.  I have to admit I can pick up the green really fast and the accuracy is almost as good as a post front sight.  I suspect that the improved visibility in the field will make up for any difference in precision.  I am looking forward to trying it out while hunting.  Ken O'Neill's undercut front post is also excellent.  I plan to use both hunting until one or the other proves itself to me.
