Track of the Wolf T/C stock replacements

I picked up a used Renegade that was in excellent condition a few years ago.  It shoots great except that I can barely get my face down low enough on the stock to get my eye level with the sights.  What was T/C thinking?
 
Would the Track of the Wolf replacement stocks fix this problem with stock geometry?

 Yes, the after market has about an inch more drop in the comb. (I have one)
 But ya might as well go to the source and cut out the middleman. Track buys their stocks from Pecitonica River Long Rifle supply. Might save ya some $$ unless Track has one that's a second or a sale,, I'd give them a call to confirm the drop and shape ya want. http://www.longrifles-pr.com/
 
 Just a tip, those stocks are a long way from "drop-in", I mean the TC stuff will fit with all but a little finish inletting, but theres alot of wood that needs to come off before you do the finish work.
 I got a #3 curly from a member here for $75, he didn't have time too finish it. I have it mostly shaped, but it'll sit now till winter (again).

I have the same problem with the Renegade comb.  I bought mine as a kit about 1980.  I've shot a number of deer with the rifle, but the high comb has never endeared itself to me.  I recently picked up a very nice, clean TC Hawken in .54.  Interestingly enough, I find the Hawken comb just enough lower to fit me very well.  Now if I could just marry the shotgun style butt of the Renegade with the lower comb of the Hawken, I'd have a gun that fit and felt perfect.


I've been looking at the Thompson aftermarket stocks from Pecitonica as well.

I purchased the Renegade for my son a few years ago.  I noticed the problem the first time at the range, but my son said nothing so I didn't worry about it.
 
Well in the past three years my son did as children are wont to do - he grew.  He now is complaining about the same thing.
 
My choice is to find a whole new gun or replace the stock.  It might be a fun project finishing a new stock.

I also have a Renegade and was considering one of these stocks.  My original stock was modified by a previous owner to have the cresent buttstock, which I love, but cut the length-of-pull pretty short.  This would solve 2 issues for me!  The question I have is if any of you have ordered the full stock for it and what you had to do to make it work.  I'm assuming the under rib would have to be removed and probably add a second dovetail for a wedge?  Mine is currently sporting a 32" Green Mountain barrel which should compliment the full stock nicely.

Nice thread....its got me thinking. My Dad has a stack of old Investarms and Thompson Center muzzle loaders that he's picked up over the years.
 
I just went to Track's website and looked at these stocks and I'm thinking about buying one of these old guns off my Dad and comverting it to a full stock rifle...Yeah Man...you've got me thinking.
 
Now how do I convince my wife that its not a new gun and that I've ALWAYS had this gun?...that could be a problem.  :o

ya put an old broomstick in a zip-up case and make sure she sees ya with it when ya tell'er "i'm gonna go gun trading". throw the stick away, put yer new gun in, and when ya get home tell'er the story of how ya really got over on "ol' so'n'so" ;) ;D ;D .

Oh.  I thought you were going to suggest that you put the broom in the case while she's not looking.  Then when she insists on seeing what you're bringing in the house, you tell her it's a present for her!  Then open it up to reveal a broom.  Thereafter she probably won't ask to see what you're hiding in the case.

i don't tell my wife any thing if she did ask i'd tell her i traded another gun.she has her hobby witch i'm not the slight interested in.thts why i keep her working to fund her ad diction. 8)

Sir that is an EXCELLENT idea. I have never thought of doing that but I will sure utilize this in the future. My hats off to you! ;D

I just recieved one of these replacement stocks that I got on ebay, in cherry wood. The stock looks beautiful, though there is one blemish near the butplate. The barrel channel is cut, and the ramrod pipe has been drilled as well. I'd say that the shaping of the stock is 95% completed. There will be some final shaping that I'll need to complete.

I'll need to square off the end of the barrel channel near the lock and inlet for the tang. I'll have to inlet for the lock, trigger assembly and buttplate, drill the tang hole an drill for the screws to hold in the lock. None of the barrel tennons have been cut as well. So I'll have some work ahead of me, but when its all said and done, this should be a fine looking full stocked rifle.
 
I'm content with my purchase.  8)

That actually sounds like a good idea.
 
...But I have to tell yuh, if you look at my some of my hunting threads, I always start off with the best of intentions in taking pictures and it just never quite works out the way that I want it too. But I'll try to remember to take and post pictures as we go along.  8)
 
I explained, to my dad, what I wanted to do and why I wanted to buy one of his TC Hawkens...He's a little excited about the prospects and somehow its now become a Father/Son project.  :o

Could you just take some wood off the stock you have and make a new buttplate?  Maybe a recoil pad?

you can usually take quite a bit of wood off a factory t/c stock and if ya take yer time with end up with a better lookin'/handlin' gun. also, one or two models of the renegade(i think the big boar or maybe the renegade hunter?) came with pads so it might be that t/c could hook ya up. for what it's worth and have a good'en neighbors, bubba.

I've replaced several TC stocks (for that same reason, bruised cheek bone) with Pecatonica stocks, pretty easy to do.
They also have stocks with slight blemishes ,that you don't even see when finished, that are cheaper iin price. The one pictured is one of their cheapest. I also replaced the trigger guard and turned the barrel to part round, makes a very nice gun. Put a straight edge along the barrel and you'll see how much more drop this stock has.

How much of a problem was turning the barrel to half round?  I had a T-C Pennsylvania Hunter which had that configuration, stupidly traded it away.  It was a sweetheart to shoot, definitely not muzzle heavy.  I've been thinking of getting the barrel of my Deer Creek rifle turned to round forward of the stock is why I ask.
