Contender buy.
« on: February 06, 2004, 05:27:53 PM »
I have never owned a single shot pistol before(except for a supposed semi auto Llama 45)  :(

A friend offered to sell me an early Contender, and I thought I'd ask for opinions.

It's an early Contender with dies, brass a T'sob mount and a 2-7X Burris LER scope.  It's chambered in 256 Win mag. A round I really want to work with.  The barrel is made by OTT.

The asking price is $375.00.  I'm mostly a milsurp fan, so I thought I'd ask the experts, is this a good deal?

TIA

Yup I'd have to agree. The frame and scope/base are worth pretty close to that. Not sure what Mike is charging for his barrels or how they are selling used since he is pretty new into barrel making but with a custom barrel tossed in it is an excellent deal so long as it is a caliber you want.

Without trying to steer this thread I simply must ask who this custom barrel maker is. Does he have a web site? As for the deal on your Contender package, you bet it's a good one! Most shops around my neck of the woods are charging $400 for a used Super 14.....stripped!

Mike is fairly new to the custom barrel making business.  His web-site is located at:

I've heard nothing but good things about his barrels.

While no longer an advertiser on this site Mike's banner has not yet been deleted from the rotation. Don't know how long it will be up but you can still click on the OTT banner any time you see it to visit his site.
