17 Hornady Hornet

 I did a quick search and did not see this. It looks like the 17Hornady Hornet is tailor made for a Handi. Has any one heard if they are looking to chamber for it?

I personally do not expect any thing too soon. Hornady has teamed up with Savage on this one. I think Savage is going to use their Model 25 for it. I look for the other manufacturers to wait and see if it takes off before they commit resources to it. They have to have a 22 Hornet they are making at the present time which would take companies like Remington out of the running right away. The Handi has a 17 HMR that could be chambered in a 17 Hornet, but again I look for it to be out for a while before any body commits to it.

Just so newbies don't get the wrong idea, the 17hmr Sportster barrel can be rechambered to a centerfire and works fine when fitted to an SB2 or even SB1 frame if it's a low pressure chambering, not the original SS1 Sportster frame.  ;)

Depending on bullet construction, range, and bullet velocity at the target (not muzzle velocity)  it may be good for coyotes, but I would guess the bullet will be too weak for good penetration.  If everything gets done correctly, though, it would be great for pelt hunters

FWIW, H&R considered the 17 Remington Fireball a couple years ago, didn' happen tho.  :-\

17 Hornet Handi?

Will they jump on the new Hornady 17 Hornet bandwaggon?  I hope so.  Reading up a little, this looks like a good new 17 cal factory load, and it's a rimmed case.  Seems like a natural for a Handi.  Now, if I had any pull at H&R....which I do not......I'd be pulling hard to get this offered.

 It looks like it would be as easy as running a reamer in a 17HMR barrel and dropping it into a 22Hornet action. This little round really shines with the lighter bullets, so the 17FB is really a better option for Coyotes. I would buy it in the Handi, but not that ugly Savage 25.

Psssst..... I'm whispering so my 17 HMR doesn't hear about it's being too light to kill the half dozen dogs it has killed so far.... :o ::)

It kills em just as dead. Lucky for us a coyote don't know the difference between 17/20grs and 40/55 grains. ;)

This little cartridge interests me.  Seems like a lot of performance in a little package.  I wonder if LilGun would work as well in the 17 as it does in the regular Hornet?  DP
