Beautiful opening day but....
« on: October 14, 2012, 12:18:11 AM »

Yesterday was opening day for Upland game here in Pennsylvania. Twenty-five degrees at seven ayem. I waited a bit for the sun to warm things some and then loaded the setter, Belle, myself and the new 16 gauge fowler into the car and drove up Red Rock Mt.
Hunted all morning. Not a wingbeat. Not one. The dog worked well and they day was beautiful around us......but no birds. Alas.

I assume birds = grouse, or do you call them partridge like they do in Maine.  :o I sure loved to eat the grouse we had in the rocky mts. & Alaska.

Since I retired & moved home to Florida birds = bobwhites, which seem to be almost nonexistent now days here in my home state. Several reason I suppose. Some say the fire ants have killed them off but I think farming & cattle operations just don't leave any cover for them like they used to.  ;)

I'd sure like to see a picture of the 16 ga fowler. I've wanted a 20ga fowler for a few years now but I like the 16 really well too.

That's really nice.  ;) I've always shot cap locks in a black powder gun. But I really want a flint fowler. Alas my retirement income is a good deal less than before I retired. So I'll half to sell something.

Thanks for the picture.
