I suppose since a 30-30 has a rim the only way to rechamber to 300 savage would be to recut a hard to get 7.62x39 barrel :'( . Or is their a way to use a 30-30 barrel? :-\

I haven't checked the round dimensions on a Savage, would a .308 Winchester work?

click on the 4D reamer rental banner and look at their chart of potential rechambers for the various handi calibers.  If you use a 30-30 barrel and the 300 savage is rimless then you may end up with an unnecessary rim cut when you are done with your rechamber.

The Handi 7.62x39 has an actual .311 bore though.....

No, the Savage is quite a bit shorter.

Having a rim cut and using a rimless cartridge in a Handi will not cause a single problem, I have made up two 307/308 (rimmed and rimless) and they work just fine.  The rim cut is a non-issue.  Haven't looked at the drawings, guess I should I have a 300 Savage reamer some place.  Larry

4D has the 7.62X39 reamer in both the .310 and the .308 bore, just tell them what you barrel is.
I just checked case  size and it looks like you could ream a 30-30 to 300 savg. The rim should not make any difference. Just don't go to deep with the reamer.

What Spooked was worried about is that he cold not rechamber a 30-30 barrel to 300 Savage because of the rim cut for the rimmed round.  There is no problem with doing this, the rim cut is only about .060 deep, a 300 Savage round in a bolt gun sticks out of the chamber by about .125, this is how all the Savage 10 and 100 series rifles work, so there is no problem at all.  Larry

Thanks for the info everyone! Actually I hope this 300 urge fades before I cut one of my 30-30's. :-\ I guess if it doesn't a 308 ejector would be in order though.

You will need a 308 ejector, and the lifter button, also drill the underlug for the button to fit in, but all that is dead easy.  Larry

An easier cheaper answer  would be get a 308 and just use a lower velocity reload if you wanted 300 Savage performance level. ;)
