Bad barrel on a Pedersoli 45-70
« on: December 21, 2011, 10:27:33 AM »
Bought a 20 year old Pedersoli that had never been fired from a person in Arizona. Rolling Block in 45-70.  When I got the rifle - the barrel was short chambered and not headspaced. My cartridges stuck out of the chamber 1/4 inch.  The bore measured .450 and the groves measured .462.  I had to send the rifle to Lee Shaver and pay 250.00 to have the rifle rebarrelled.  If you find an old Pedersoli, check the barrel prior to buying.

I hear ya. The newer ones are pretty nice but some of the old ones I've seen were flat out awful.
