ordered a new 700 today
« on: December 18, 2011, 02:45:52 AM »
Ive had crap luck with my 257 wby vanguard. Its just not consistantly accurate and it copper fouls the barrel in 10 shots. I sent i back to wby and they said it met there standards and a 100 bucks later i had it back with nothing done. Yesterday i brought it to my local dealer and told him the story of it and put it on the shelf on consinement and ordered a new stainless flutted cdl in 257. Hopefully this one will do a bit better.

Ever try 25-06?  Is there a lot of difference?  My 25-06 is a tack driver and doesn't foul so badly.  Your new 257 may not either but the extra heat and velocity could be the culprit.

I bet your new Model CDL in .257W will "light your fire", ha. Just do a moderate amount of barrel break in, or load up a few polishing fireforming loads in that stainless barrel, and get ready to swoon, ha. I loaded the Barnes 100gr TSX in my last 257W, a custom Douglas barrel Mauser MarkX, and it would shoot waaay under .5 if I held my mouth right! I killed a huge Black Hawaian ram with it in West Texas. The guide offered me way too much money for it for me to pass, ha. I was in the process, awhile back, of getting one of those Model 700 CDL SF in .257W when a friend gave me a custom Mod 721 converted to 7mm RUM. I get over 3600fps with a 140 TTSX as opposed to the 3500/100TSX from the Weatherby, so I passed on it, although I think it is one of the handsomest rifles Remington ever made.
