acrylic kitchen sink?
« on: January 16, 2012, 03:08:14 PM »
Does anyone have any experience or opinions on acrylic kitchen sinks? I have a 30" sink base and my wife wants a black sink to match our appliances. It seems as though acrylic is the only material in my price range that will meet the requirements.
Hi NSA! Can you see how many fingers I am holding up?

The wife got one that is called e-granite by a company named elkay. It says  85% quartz and acrylic resins. They are around $200 give or take for size. It hasn't scratched up or stained yet. They can be mounted from the bottom or top. Beyond that I can't tell you much. Just thought maybe if they are cheaper it could be another avenue.

Thanks for the reply. After I posted I did find a granite composite sink special order online from Lowes. My gripe about the acrylic sink I saw is that its very very shiny. The composite one looks like it has a matte finish which I would prefer.

To me it looks like slate or something, maybe unpolished granite, though I've never seen that. She wanted dyed cement and this one had that look without the grainy texture and cost. I figured the shiny acrylic would show scratches when you drop a pan in there on accident. I don't know just speculation. My intent was to lightly sand the acrylic to a matte finish before I found this other one. So far the fake granite has been a pretty tough finish. If you drop a dish when washing they are sure to break though. Stainless was a 50/50 chance.
