Can Someone Check My Math?
« on: December 31, 2011, 03:09:45 PM »
I put this chart together using a free ballistic program from Berger Bullets. They don't calculate the number of clicks for a scope setting at the different ranges. So I edited it myself using my 12th grade education. This is the formula I used for determining clicks of elevation for long distance shots.

1click=1/4" at 100yds
1click=1/2" at 200yds
1click=3/4" at 300yds
1click=1" at 400yds

All the odd numbers are calculated by adding 1/16" to the number below them. Did I do this right?

DISCLAIMER: I'm well aware that nothing but actual shooting will determine the exact drop, but I don't plan to shoot anything but paper with this chart.

Dinny, it looks good after a quick scan.  I'd need another cup or so of coffee to really read it while doing the mental gymnastics needed to proof read it.

I suspect you'd get more knowledgeable eyes looking at this if it were up on the handloading forum.

Dinny - As Talking Malibu Barbie says, Math is hard. The even 100's columns are correct when you compare Yards, Drop, and Clicks. Didn't check in between, but they appear in line. Compare it to this one from Biggameinfo.com. It has the clicks already calculated.

The difference between people who do stuff and people who don't do stuff is that the people who do stuff do stuff.

That is the formula I use to sight in.  This assumes of coarse your scope has 1/4 minute clicks.

 Some will argue minutia but you can figure 1 minute equals 1" at 100 yards, therefore 1 minute equals 2" at 200 yards, 3" at 300 yards, 4" at 400 yards, the minutia starts being significant the farther you take this. 1 minute equals 1/2 " at 50 yards and 1/4 " at 25 yards.

It can seem counter intuitive to crank the dials so much at close range and so little at distance. Being a fat SOB I relate to a piece of pie and the angle doesn't change the further from the center you just get more pie.

I found this one after doing a thorough internet search. The numbers are close, but since I can add more variables to the Berger calculator, I think that is the difference.
