Help needed with my QB-78 Deluxe
« on: August 15, 2011, 01:14:47 PM »
Hey there:

Made a dumb mistake, unscrewed my fill cap with pressure still on, it blew my 2 cartridges out, along with the threaded fill cap. Put it all back together, won't work. Does anyone have a PDF file or owner's manual they could send via email to me ? I emailed Stephen at Archer airguns, he said I still had all I needed, but some thing is wrong. Please help me if you can. Too expensive to pack up and ship back to Archer airguns.

Thanks to all,

What "won't work" about the gun?

When you screw it together with the cartridge(s), does it puncture them?  Please describe what is and isn't happening.  Maybe we can trouble shoot this.

I don't have a parts diagram to send you.  Hopefully someone will have one to send or to post.  That will help show what's supposed to be there.

Hello:
When placing two Co2 cartridges in, they will "rattle", nothing holding them snug. Also, they will not pierce. I found some PDF files to look at with schematics. I will have to study them closely. Looks like a spacer in there, and I may have lost it, also. I've searched and searched, cannot find any pieces that may have shot out.

I appreciate any/all help I can get. Thank you.

Hmmm...

In that case, only things I can think might have happened are that your valve body somehow pushed back in the tube, or the internal part attached to the cap (with O-ring and piercing pin) came off when it blew out. Neither seems likely though.

Or, maybe you lost a spacer piece.

This is what I'd do.  I'd take a few pictures of what you have.  Try for a picture up inside the tube.  Pictures of the bits and pieces.  Email the pictures along with a thoruogh re-telling of what happened to Stephen Archer.  Hopefully he can help you trouble shoot it and send you any parts you need.  You may well be able to do this without sending him the gun.  Just buy the part or parts and keep the shipping down to that.

It is most likely something really minor.  I had something similar happen with an old Crosman once.  I don't remember exactly what the deal was, but it was right next to nothing.

I have a QB79, not a 78.  If I had a 78 I'd open it up and post some pics of what's there so you could compare to what you have.

If you do decide you need to send the gun to Archer, you can take it out of the stock to reduce the size and weight.  That will save you a few bucks on shipping.

I don't think there's any kind of a spacer thingie that could have been blown out and lost.  :-\

Here's the diagram...

Thanks to all of you. I talked to Stevan at Archer Airguns. I ordered a new end cap, mine was missing some parts when it got blown into the yard. Now, working like a charm. For the money, this gun can't be beat. It is powerful, extremely accurate, and has a decent trigger on it. I haven't done anything to mine, except scope it, and shoot, shoot, shoot it. Even on one cartridge, you can get 30-40 hard shots from it. As always, test with all the available pellets you have, and you'll see why you will love this gun. It's unbelievable, made in China, how good it looks and shoots. This is a squirrel gun first class within any sane squirrel range.

Best,

Don't know why it is; but Chinese parts are very expensive, so they are learning.

It's a copy of a Crosman 160, one of the best air rifles made, Get a bulk fill adaptor for it and fill it from your 20# co 2 bottle You will be happy.
