any good #1 smiths out there? would like to get a #1 in .17 remington.need to know what action to start with.(ie,.223 ).

You can use any #1 action you want to do that. Just have to install a .223 extractor. Brownells should have them, or get one from Ruger. Of course if you start with a .223 you have one already, like you said.

Ken Heinze, San Angelo, Texas did a fine job on my partners No 1. It grouped Minute of Truck. I swear you couldn't have killed yourself with it if the barrel was in your mouth. Heinze fixed that and now it is a tack driver. He is your typical gunsmith, ie, grouchy old fart but he will give you an honest (blunt) apprasial of your weapon, problem and cost to correct. I like the old gruff fella even though I thought he was gonna sic his dogs on me for asking a stupid question. .
