Wizard and add on barrels
« on: January 07, 2012, 06:05:32 AM »
I am kind of interested in a Wizard with a 762/39  but the Missouri Ozarks seems to be at the end of the supply line.  My usual dealer, who sells Rossi rifles, had never heard of the wizard and claimed he could not get one.  I am not impressed with the previous Rossi single shots but according to some gun editors the wizard is much better.  One problem is that the 762/39 is offered only as an ad on barrel and not as a complete gun.  I guess if I have to I could get won in .270 as I have a lot of empty brass I have picked up over the years.   Does anyone have luck getting a Wizard and more importantly a 762/39 add on barrel? I wish I had jumped on getting a 762/39 for my Handi when they sold them even though it is a pain to have to send the receiver in to get the barrel fitted.

I have two Wizard barrels, the first I bought was a 30-06 hoping it had a thin profile for a light barrel to be fitted to an SB2 H&R frame, that went well and shoots ok with the one load I tried in it that shoots well under an inch in my H&R Ultracomp. Bud's had the 7.62x39 barrel for $140, so I got one of those, it doesn't come close to fitting the same frame as the other one using the same shim stock at the pivot, so I suspect Rossi has a real QC problem with them, may be why they're hard to find. Also, the 30-06 barrel is an ejector, the 7.62x39 barrel is an extractor.

Hey Quick; are you saying that the wizard barrels inter-change with the handi's ?

The 30-06 barrel fits with a shim, the 7.62x39 barrel isn't even close with the same shim on the same frame, so I don't think they're interchangable even on a Wizard, read the link I posted.
