.31 cal. Baby Dragoon vs Tree Rat
« on: February 09, 2012, 03:50:00 PM »
Tree Rat looses ;D
If you notice in the picture, the ball is visable
just under the hide by the hammer spur.
The ball will normally pass through but this one was
about 40 yards away. Load was 10 grains of powder behind a 00
buckshot pellet.

Very cool, I've been wanting a cap-n-baller.  ;)  Little one like this would be a lot of fun.  ;)   Great shooting!

MAAAAAANNNNN,

That was a lucky shot but one that you will be proud of til you croak. I made a similar lucky shot on a flight of ducks about to pass overhead when a plinking buddy said "Betcha can't hit one". So I drew my '61 Navy and pulled ahead of the lead duck about 15 feet, fired and watched the 4th one back fold up and crash about 100 yds away. As the bird descended I reholstered and acted like I do that all the time. I never told him I was aiming at the first duck and hit the 4th. Good thing they were flying in a "V" formation as they were in line with the trajectory. It was quite memorable. Whenerver you have witnesses you must give the impression that you meant to do that.

I'm not sure I'd brag about shooting a duck with a pistol, sounds like a Federal offence to me. Not saying I've never done it but I just wouldn't publish the fact.  LOL

There were more in the freezer. that is for sure the longest
shot I have ever made with that gun. Wait until next year for my match-Lock

squirrel pics. I am making a .32 caliber matchlock handgun for hunting them.

Well how cool is that!   :o   You have got to post pictures!   ;D   I've often thought of building a matchlock to shoot a deer with, but I probably won't live long enough...  :(

Many moons ago I built a Japanese style snapping matchlock. I fired it a few time but it just made me nervous as heck, just something about the idea of having a powder charged gun and a burning wick really isn't comfortable for me. I'd pull the match and carry it about ten steps away before loading powder and the pan had a pivoting cover for safety but it still made me nervous to handle it. I gave it to a guy to hang on a wall as decoration for his Bed & Breakfast lounge room.

I've got two of those square backed pocket revolvers.  There is not enough room in the guard for my finger to get in there to trip the trigger.

I really like the idea of the 31 claiber revolver, that is why I bought the first one.  Actually, I have several of the Pocket 36s and got the 31 because I liked the way the 36s carried and shot.  I was amazed at the difference the guard made.  And the second 31 was the same, so I wonder if all the square backed guards (on the 31s) are smaller than the round ones?  I guess I need to get a round guard and rebuild it to square.
