schnable forend

I see some models offering European style schnable forends-which I particularly like. Its not just style-but how they fit in your hand-just right.I suppose an added benefit is you hold the rifle the same way every time, which might aid consistency. If I am refinishing a rifle stock anyway -I generally reconfigure the forend to a schnable type fit

I think I read some where the reason for schnable for-ends is to get your hand close to the barrel.  It is supposed to allow a more natural point and shoot on shotguns.

H&R doesn't offer schnable forends on any of their firearms any more except the 45-70 BC, the 45 Colt Carbine had one also, but was discontinued in 2008. Most of the Handis and Pardners made in the 90s and early 2ks had them so there are lots of them out there, I think Brownells may have some and H&R also has some, I think they call them a squire, but I'm not positive of that, Brownells does ship to Canada, or at least used to. Coincidentally, the last one I bought on ebay was from a seller in Canada!  ;D

I have yet to see a factory offering of a European schnabel forend on anything from H&R. A reasonable facimile of a schnabel-type but nowhere close to a European style.
There is not enough wood left on H&R's version to even create the graceful lines and feel without compromising the structural integrity of the forend itself. They sand too much out of the underside.

One of these days I may decide to get creative and make one. However it would also mean making a buttstock to match and that requires using blank stock that I no longer have lying around. I don't plan to tackle that anytime soon.
